Learn traditional methods to develop characters and ideas, and then recreate and animate your characters using Macromedia Flash® 5.

Level I:
Learn a variety of methods to develop characters and create animation themes. You'll start by making rough sketches of simple characters on paper. Next, you'll develop your characters through helpful feedback from the class and instructor. During our final class, held in a computer lab, you'll see examples of Flash animation and learn basic techniques of drawing and animating in Flash. Finally, you will have a chance to create a brief animated piece.

Level II:
Learn how to create a short animation in Flash.

Students will be guided through the process by taking part in a class-wide animation project demonstrated by the instructor on a media projector.

Learn how objects are a critical element in Flash animation, how they are created for quick, linear animation and how movie clips are made. We'll explore using sound to complement our animation, including recording and saving sounds on useable files, pulling song files off of discs, and importing files into Flash. Learn about thumbnails and how to develop storyboards; brainstorming many ideas before settling on a final concept.

You will create a one-minute animation, possibly using your characters developed in Level I, or by using existing characters and sounds.
