Design Engineering
Competition, Portland State University (PSU)
This competition is
offered through the PSU College of Engineering and Computer Science
for Grades K-12 to compete in various engineering challenges hosted
by the engineering student groups such as Society of Automotive
Engineers (SAE), Tau Beta Pi, National Engineering Honor Society (TBP),
Society of Women Engineers (SWE), Eta Kappa Nu (International
Electrical Engineering Honor Society), American Society of
Mechanical Engineers (ASME), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)
and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). The
challenges may include airplane design, catapult, egg drop, edible
car, mouse trap powered car, truss design, and electric motor.

Intel International
Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF)
Intel ISEF is the world's
largest pre-college celebration of science. Held annually in May,
the Intel ISEF brings together over 1,200 students from 40 nations
to compete for scholarships, tuition grants, internships, scientific
field trips and the grand prize: $50,000 college scholarship and a
high-performance computer. The 2004 fair is being held in Portland,
Oregon.
